Taylor Swift je još jednom potvrdila svoj status pop ikone, osvojivši čak sedam nagrada. Jedan od najemotivnijih trenutaka večeri bio je kad je Katy Perry primila nagradu Video Vanguard za životno delo. Perry je izvela medley svojih najvećih hitova, uključujući Dark Horse, California Gurls i Firework. U svom govoru, Perry je istakla važnost autentičnosti i zahvalila se LGBTQ+ zajednici na podršci tokom njene karijere. Ovo je sedma godina zaredom da žena osvaja ovu prestižnu nagradu, što pokazuje sve veći uticaj ženskih izvođača u muzičkoj industriji.

Nakon pauze, Shawn Mendes se trijumfalno vratio na VMAs sa novom pesmom Nobody Knows.
