Topics of Conversation, Miranda Popkey

Ako ste ljubitelj dela Salli Rooney, ne možete pogrešiti ako uzmete primerak debitantskog romana Mirande Popkey, “Topics Of Conversation”.

Loved this! Loved this! Divine cover and divine book. Thank you @serpentstail for the #gifted copy! – – – #topicsofconversation by @mirandapopkey is exactly the kind of meta fiction I live for: it’s a book that prods at the questions at the heart of most novels and maybe even most lives, about the stories we tell ourselves, and how they come to shape the way we see the world. Each chapter is a conversation which reveals something profound, even if subtle, about stories and truths and reinvention. It’s not plot-driven but it’s completely propulsive, and the Rachel Cusk comparisons are entirely warranted. It’s utterly brilliant. – – – #booksbooksbooks #amreading #bookstagram #bibliophile

All About Love: New Visions, Bell Hooks

“Many folks feel profoundly cynical about love. A lot of people simply think we make too much of love. Our culture may make much of love as compelling fantasy or myth, but it does not make much of the art of loving.” — Finished “All About Love” this morning. Loved it. Part cultural commentary, part metaphysical manifesto, it exposes the lack of good models we have for loving behavior and proposes an ethical shift towards optimism, service, and community. This is not just about romantic love, but about the art of loving in all arenas—political, spiritual, social, and personal. It’s also about what love is not: fear, shame, abuse, coercion, dishonesty. I highly recommend it. — “In the case of romantic relationships, many people fear getting trapped in a bond that is not working, so they flee at the onset of conflict. Or they self-indulgently create unnecessary conflict as a way to avoid commitment. They flee from love before they feel its grace. Pain may be the threshold they must cross to partake of love’s bliss. Running from the pain, they never know the fullness of love’s pleasure.”

My Brilliant Friend, Elena Ferante

📚My Brilliant Friend ✍🏼Elena Ferrante Rating: liked👍🏻 ⠀⠀ I have received this book forever ago as a gift from a friend (@harmonicagrace), but it took a recommendation from @qsreads for me to finally read it! I decided even though I owned the physical book to read it on audio since I fly through audiobooks much more quickly. This was a good choice because the audiobook pronounces all the Italian words correctly and I think I would have been bored reading the physical book. In fact, the audio from the library glitched 3/4 of the way through and I had to finish the last 4th in the physical book and it wasn't as enjoyable. I think this book is just more literary than I normally enjoy and I found the characters to be frustrating. A bad combo for me is a slow plot and unlikeable characters. ⠀⠀ If you like more literary novels that span time and dive into friendship relationships I would suggest this. If you like a faster plot and need someone to root for, this isn't the book for you. . . . . . . . . . . @blackstonepublishing #mybrilliantfriend #mybrilliantfriendbook #elenaferrante #elenaferrantebooks #ferantefever #blackstonepublishing #blackstoneaudiobooks @penguinrandomhouse #penguinrandomhouse Narrator: #hillaryhuber @hillaryoutloud @hillatious #NeapolitanNovels #neapolitan #neapolitanquartet #bookseries #bookintranslation #italia #audiobook #audiobookstagram #audiobooks #aftershokz #shokzsquad #booksandtea #emileereadsbooks #booksharks #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookgram #notjustaprettybook #bookreview #readinglife #emileelistenstobooks

The Reckonings: Essays, Lacy M Johnson

Objavljena 2018. godine, “The Reckonings” je istraživanje pravde. Dodirujući teme poput seksualnog napada, istorije umetnosti i rase, Johnson spaja svoju kritiku sa memoarima i etikom u zbirci. Svaki esej je dobar kao poslednji.
