WANNABE MAGAZINE: Did you know that you would go on to work in fashion when you were a boy?
Marc Clark: When I was younger, I always knew I wanted to be in fashion but to what extent, I wasn’t sure. I always had an eye for beautiful things and thrived on dressing myself and picking out my own clothes. Fashion is an outlet for me to express my feelings, thoughts, and creative energy!
How did you start working in the fashion industry?
I’ve worked, lived and breathed fashion for over ten years. I started out in the industry coordinating fashion events, fashion shows, and managed retail stores while I lived in Maryland. I moved to New York over 4 years ago and started interning. I’ve worked with BET, MTV, Vibe Magazine, and Russell Simmons. Prior to Marcc, I started a t-shirt company with a friend of mine and my business partner and at that time were in over 50 retail stores in the country.
How would you describe your style?
My personal style is fun, daring and simplistic; if that makes sense. I am a big fan of shoes and accessories.
Your bow ties and fox tails are very popular now and a lot of celebrities wear them. Did you expect that when you made them?
No, I didn’t expect my products to be so popular. I started designing based off things I love and have a passion for. Its a wonderful feeling to see celebrities and customers embracing my designs and products. That feeling is the drive and motivation that keeps me doing what I love to do.
Who are these creations made for?
I always keep my customers in my mind when creating since they are the oneswho are wearing my products. I try to create pieces that are sexy, unique and fashion forward justlike they are.
Who are you favorite designers?
I am a huge fan of Marc Jacobs, Raf Simons, and Tom Ford. These individuals are masterminds at their crafts and inspire me tremendously. They each takes risks, and approach fashion from a edgy, creative point of view.
Where do you find inspiration for your design?
I am inspired by life, art and everything around me. I use my surrounding to create my work.
Finally, what can we expect from you in 2011?
The Marcc Spring/Summer 2011 collection is launching on Jan. 10, 2011 on www.MarcClark.com. This collection consists of men’s and women’s t-shirts and accessories. I am really proud of the collection and the relaunch of the website. Expect innovative designs and clothing coming your way.
